Hmong Flag Football J4th 2010 // Where Champions Are Made
In just several days, over 500 players will come together, consisting of 32 teams, battling on 3 rugged fields, lasting 2 long hot and sweaty days, all fighting to become to the best Hmong flag football team in the nation. Come Independence weekend, there will be and can only be one team left Sunday evening. Sure there are the Memorial Days, the Labor Days, the in between small market tournaments, but there is only one July 4th tournament where everyone is trying to claim the ultimate title as the 2010 HFF National Champs. There is not a better feeling of winning a tournament and being the last team standing, playing in front of hundreds of people and having all eyes on you. That’s what we live for as athletes and that’s what will happen for all teams this weekend.
If there is one thing Hmong people can agree on, it is that Hmong flag football, or HFF, has taken over as the main attraction at Hmong tournaments. Sure, volleyball still has its high flying super athletes, but HFF has drawn more teams and people because of the unlimited amount of roster spots, the amount of money teams invest and spend at tournaments, and the attraction of something new besides just soccer and volleyball.
This is probably the biggest week of sports in a long, long while. Am I saying that this weekend is bigger than the NFL Superbowl featuring the Colts and Saints? Yes. The NBA All-Star game held in the Big D? Yes, I am. How about the NCAA Men’s Final Four? Heck yes. How about Money Mayweather vs. Pacman? Well, we might have to wait until it happens, but until then, yes.
Who can argue against the opening week of the summer of LeBron, the World Cup in South Africa, the premiere of the newest Twilight movie, and last but certainly not least, the biggest and best Hmong tournament in the world! Being hosted in the best Hmong region in the United States; and yes I am from Wisconsin so I can’t say best state, but best region will do. All you Californians may have some sort of argument against that, but that is a whole other topic that we can touch base upon another day. In the meanwhile, you can’t ask for anything better than a week full of goodies. Filled with drama, suspense, excitement, and I haven't even mentioned the tournament food yet.
